Richard Briers stars in his first comedy for ITV, as a struggling vicar who abandons the comforts of his wealthy Oxfordshire parish for the more challenging run-down Midlands town. Also starring Pam Ferris and Nigel Humphreys, this hugely charming sitcom was written by noted screenwriter John Kane, and directed by multi-award winner John Howard Davies. Series One: When doubts begin to set with the Rev. Philip Lambe, he feels the problems of an urban parish might help renew his faith. But before accepting a position in Edendale, he must influence his family – particularly he’s reluctant wife Emma - that the move will mean a fresh start for them all. When Philip and Emma finally visit Edendale they discover that if anything, it's even worse than reports suggested. In fact after one night spent there it confirms Emma's worst fears, and reinforces Philip's belief that Edendale really does needs him... Series Two: Rev. Philip Lambe has persuaded his family to join him in the inaptly named town of Edendale, where he has taken up a new position and a fresh start. But ministering to his new urban flock brings many unexpected problems: this second series sees the well-meaning but inexperienced clergyman getting into a quarrel with a local martial-arts club, finding a homeless couple on his doorstep, and coming face to face with a delusional, gun-welding stranger...
